It was Akshay Kumar's Gold Vs John Abraham's Satyamev Jayate this Independence Day. Surprisingly, both the films did well in their respective markets during the extended weekend. On Sunday, Gold and Satyamev Jayate managed to rake in numbers ranging between 30-35%. The collections for Gold ranged around Rs 15.75-16 crore nett while Satyamev Jayate is around Rs 9.75-10 crore nett, as per early estimates by Box Office India. While Gold had a weekend collection of around Rs 70 crore nett plus, Satyamev Jayati had a weekend collection around Rs 50 crore nett

The figures are impressive given the market hype which was said to be low. Gold is a period drama set in the period between 1936-1948 when India won its first Olympic Gold in the field of Hockey as Independent India. The movie also stars Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal, among others. Gold has been directed by Reema Kagti and co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani among others.

On the other hand, Satyamev Jayati is a story of bravery and fight against corruption. Satyamev Jayate also stars Aisha Sharma in the lead role and is the typical Bollywood masala movie. The movie managed to garner a lot of attention.

Both Akshay and John have already maintained that there is enough space for both the movies to flourish and that they are not fearing the competition. Akshay and John have already worked together for a number of movies including Garam Masala.

So after Paramanu, This is the second solo hit from John! Quite a dark horse, and yet still low-key. Dude does the movies he wants, makes money, and keeps out of the spotlight. Good for him!
