We all remember Zaira Wasim making her Bollywood debut in Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal wherein she played the role of Geeta Phogat, and post Dangal, Zaira Wasim won accolades for the film Secret Superstar. A few days back, Zaira wrapped up the shooting of Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink, and on Sunday, in a detailed post on her Facebook page, , the Kashmiri-born star said she realised that she doesn’t belong here.

“Five years ago, I made a decision that changed my life forever. As I stepped my foot in Bollywood, it opened doors of massive popularity for me. I started to become the prime candidate of public attention, I was projected as the gospel of the idea of success and was often identified as a role model for the youth. However, that's never something that I set out to do or become, especially with regards to my ideas of success and failure, which I had just started to explore and understand,” Wasim said in the lengthy post.

Now, Zaira’s director of her debut film- Nitesh Tiwari from Dangal, opened up on Zaira’s decision as he said, “I read about it in this afternoon, and it came as a shock to me. This was unexpected, but at the end of the day, it is her life and she has the right to lead it the way she [deems fit]. She was chosen for reasons best known to all of us. There's a sense of loss because Zaira is an extremely talented actress.” Last year in 2018, Zaira took to social media to reveal that she was battling depression and when Tiwari was asked if she contacted him during this phase, he said they haven’t been in touch post Dangal. “Zaira and I lost touch post Dangal. We briefly met during award shows. Her reasons are best known to her. She must have thought about it and taken the step. None of us has the right to pass judgment on what she has decided,” Tiwari said.

This Day That Year

Her life, her choice, she will not be missed, I will continue to watch those who are still in the business. Next!!!.

Balance me here. Does Islam prohibit women from working as an actor. Does being an actor automatically mean you have to be vain or immodest? Which aspect of a women's career as an actor is incompatible with Islam? Zaira has either misunderstood her religion or how to co-exist in this industry as an Islamic actor

I think Zaira Wasim has took the right decision to quit Bollywood industry I think she must be feeling insecure what people are thinking about her religion and her faith towards god I respect her decision on quitting Bollywood industry best wishes to her for her rest of her carrier

Thank you for respecting that.
