Deepika Padukone on meeting Laxmi as Malti on Chhapaak sets: There's no better validation than her being happy

At Chhapaak’s trailer launch event, Deepika Padukone opened up about meeting Laxmi Agarwal on the sets of the film. The Chhapaak star revealed she was very nervous to meet the person on whom the film is based.

One of the highly anticipated trailer of Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak was just launched at an event in Mumbai. Based on the story of the most known acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, Chhapaak stars Deepika as Malti and showcases her story post the attack. Deepika stepped into the shoes of Laxmi for the film and the first look of the actress left everyone in awe of the uncanny resemblance. At the trailer launch event, Padukone revealed how she felt when she met Laxmi on the sets. 

At the event, Deepika revealed that she was extremely nervous about meeting Laxmi while she was in the makeup of Malti. Padukone mentioned that in Chhapaak, it is the first time she is playing a character that isn’t fictional or dead and hence, she was very nervous. However, all her nervousness got over when Laxmi came on the sets and mentioned that she was happy to see Deepika play Malti. At the trailer launch, Deepika also got extremely emotional and Meghna revealed that it is because she hadn’t seen the whole trailer before the event.

Deepika spoke about her first meeting on the sets with Laxmi and said, “I felt I was looking at myself. Lakshmi had come and She looked at me and felt she was looking at herself. She came on the first day to the set. I was extremely nervous. This was the first character I played which wasn't ficitional or dead. There's no better validation for me when there's a person you're playing who's in front of you and says that they are happy looking at me.”

Meanwhile, the trailer of Chhapaak features the story of the triumph of Malti, played by Deepika who suffers an acid attack at a young age. Vikrant Massey will be seen playing Deepika’s love interest in the film. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Chhapaak is co-produced by Deepika and the director. It is slated to release on January 10, 2020.
