There would be no better person to essay the role of Ranveer Singh's wife on-screen than his own wife, Deepika Padukone. The actress has worked opposite Ranveer in several movies, including Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. Now, post their wedding, Deepika will be sharing the screen space with Ranveer in '83. It was previously confirmed that the actress will be portraying the role of Romi Dev, the wife of Kapil Dev, in the movie based on the 1983 World Cup. Ranveer brings the role of Kapil Dev to the big screen.

While we've seen Deepika spending time with the on-screen Indian cricket team in London, not many details were known about her role in the movie. However, it all changes now as the actress spills the beans about Romi. The actress recently told Hindustan Times that the role might be lighter from the ones she has essayed over the past few years, the character does go through hardships while India journey through the World Cup tournament and lift the cup.

Speaking with Hindustan Times, the actress revealed, "Honestly speaking, I’ve always enjoyed playing characters that take a lot out of me, emotionally. Even in ’83, there are extreme highs and lows that Romi also goes through in the journey towards Indian cricket team creating history by winning the world cup. But the film also — albeit briefly — explores lighter moments between Romi and her husband [Kapil Dev]. So, in that sense, you can say that it has been [a] lighter [part] emotionally.”

The confession came after a source told the national daily that the storyline of '83 features several highs and lows points starring the lead actors. However, there will be some lighter moments as well. We cannot wait to see Deepika and Ranveer take over the screen as Kapil and Romi. "For some time now, Deepika has often spoken about her craving to do a lighter role since she has constantly been doing intense characters. In a way, her part in ’83 fits that bill [of a comparatively lighter part] but not entirely because in essence, the film is a gripping drama about Indian [cricket] team’s journey towards the [1983] world cup victory," the insider told the newspaper.
