Deepika Padukone is one of the popular Bollywood stars who doesn’t shy away from speaking her mind, especially when it comes to mental health. In fact, she had surprised the world when she first opened up about her battle with depression in 2015. Ever since then, the Bajirao Mastani actress has been quite vocal about her struggles and the issues related to it.Recently during her interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Deepika once again spoke about her struggle with depression and revealed the reason which made her speak about mental health. 

Talking about it, the Padmaavat star stated that she wanted the people to know her truth. While she didn’t care about the consequences, opening up about her struggles turned out to be “extremely liberating” for Deepika. “Now, not a single day goes by that people aren't comfortable to talk to me about their mental health. And I give them my time. There's nothing more important than that, to listen. That in itself is an achievement for me and for the cause. That was really my motivation, to have people talk about mental health, the way we talk about our physical health,” Deepika said.

And while the 33-year-old actress is glad to have opened up on her anxiety issues, she credits her mother and the doctors to have recognized the symptoms in her. Deepika stated, “I didn't know why I would feel directionless. Why I felt like I didn't want to live anymore. Why I felt I wanted to give up everything. Why I would just break down or have bouts of anxiety or start sweating suddenly. I had no idea why any of it happened, and it was my mother who happened to catch me in one of these moments.”

Earlier, Deepika had mentioned that depression is often misunderstood by people with being a bit sad. However, she had maintained that depression is a clinical condition and one cannot control it. Meanwhile, on the work front, the diva recently wrapped the shooting of Kabir Khan’s ’83 along with Ranveer Singh. Besides, she will also be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak which is based on acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
