Deepika Padukone's new ad mired in controversy as makers are accused of plagiarism
It seems like controversy has refused to leave Deepika Padukone’s side. The actress recently featured in an ad that has run into trouble of late. Reports state that the backdrop and the set of the same are identical with another one created in Yeh Ballet directed by Sooni Taraporevala in 2020. Rupin Suchak, the production designer of the advertisement has also admitted to the same. He has added that the ad director of the brand asked him to make it that way.
While admitting to the same, he said that it was the director who wanted the same to be recreated. However, the movie’s director Sooni is unhappy with the way things have turned out. Not only did she accuse the ad of plagiarism but also called it intellectual theft. The filmmaker also lashed out at the makers for copying it without permission or acknowledgment. She has also discussed the same in detail on her official social media handle.
Sooni writes, “I was shocked to see our Yeh Ballet dance studio set in this ad, because it was conceptualized & created out of a derelict space by Shailaja Sharma @shalzoid (our PD) from scratch and dismantled after our shoot. Basically @nadiaeye (the director of this ad) saw Yeh Ballet and decided to plagiarize our set down to the very last detail (swipe for screenshot).” She further writes, “ This is not homage this is intellectual theft! It’s SO unfair to our wonderful production designer @shalzoid to have her work ripped off like that.”

How is this her fault? For a busy person like her, I'm sure she doesn't have all the time to validate it... She should fire her team. I have noticed, her team had poor fashion sense, social media sense, and other links... She needs a fresh team. Such differences or duplication of art happens anyway... Hope they all sort it out in a civil way

while its not deepika's fault in anyway, sooni is a senior, experienced artist and the makers of the ad should apologize or compensate the concerned from yeh ballet. even if someone is not senior, stealing intellectual property is so low.
