Director Priyadarshan hospitalised after testing positive for COVID-19

COVID-19 is spreading at a rampant rate. Several celebrities in the film industry have contracted the virus. On Friday, filmmaker Priyadarshan was tested positive for COVID-19. The 64-year-old director has been admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai after the diagnosis. Further information on the director's health is awaited.  

Priyadarshan is one of the most successful film directors in India, who has given us an incredible list of films in southern languages as well as Hindi. The director recently came up with the sequel to a 2003 hit called ‘Hungama 2’ which featured Shilpa Shetty. The filmmaker has collaborated with stars like Akshay Kumar, Pares Rawal, Akshaye Khanna, and Rajpal Yadav amongst others. National award-winning writer and director’s work in Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam cinema is recognised globally. He has garnered appreciation for films including 'Kanchirvaram', 'Virasat' and 'Hera Pheri', 'Thenmavin Kombath' and others. Priyadarshan's lastest release was ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ featuring Mohanlal.

In the other news, several celebrities including Vishal Dadlani, music director S Thaman, actress Swara Bhasker, Mithali Raj have also been infected with the virus. The other celebrities who earlier contracted COVID-19 included Kareena Kapoor Khan, Maheep Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, Amrita Arora, Nora Fatehi, Arjun Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor. 

Meanwhile, on Friday, India registered over 1 lakh positive cases. This is the first time in seven months that daily new COVID-19 cases have crossed the one-lakh mark in the country. With 30,836 new recoveries, the country’s active caseload is now at 3,71,363.  In the last 24 hours, 302 patients also succumbed to the deadly infection. With an alarming rise in the cases, several state governments have announced strict restrictions.
