Hema Malini has joined the long list of celebrities who ventured into politics. The yesteryear star contested for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The actress has been part of politics for two decades now. She campaigned for veteran actor late Vinod Khanna back in 1999 when the latter was contesting from Gurdaspur in Punjab. It did not take her too long to stand up for elections herself. Hema officially painted herself saffron in 2004. She has been with the political party for one and a half decade now. 

But before Hema dived into politics, she was a successful actress in Bollywood. Hema was born to Jaya Lakshmi Chakravarti and VSR Chakravarti. The actress, who was raised in Chennai, found her way to Bollywood in 1968. She made her memorable debut in Bollywood with Sapno Ka Saudagar. She starred opposite the acclaimed filmmaker and actor in the movie. 

The actress went on to be a part of several blockbuster movies like Sholay, Kranti, Seeta Aur Geeta, Johnny Mera Naam, Bhagavat and more. She got heads turning with her performance and the audience loved watching the beautiful star take over the silver screen. But it was her 1977 movie titled Dream Girl that deemed Hema as Bollywood's ultimate Dream Girl.

It was during her course of becoming India's Dream Girl, she met Dharmendra. The actor, who was already married, fell head over heels for Hema and before anyone would know it, the duo eventually tied the knot.

Hema married Dharmendra in 1980 and together the couple shares two daughters. They are parents to Esha Deol, who is a Bollywood actress and Ahana Deol. Dharmendra also joined politics in 2004. He contested for the Lok Sabha Elections from Rajasthan's Bikaner that time.
