Govinda to revisit career ups & downs in multi edition autobiography: My story can’t be contained in one book

Govinda’s 35 years in Bollywood have surely been a rollercoaster ride. For the actor to summarise all his accomplishments, from the glittering highs to the unfortunate lows in a single book, would be impossible. Spending his childhood in a chawl, he had dreams to someday make it big in the Hindi film industry. And soon after, as luck rolled in his direction, he was able to showcase his extraordinary dancing and comic skills with the help of directors who saw potential in him.

Now, in a chat with Mid-Day, Govinda has revealed that he will be releasing his multi-edition autobiography. He even shared why it cannot be made into one book while talking about it. “I had decided early on that I would start writing my autobiography when I turn 57,” reveals Govinda, who began penning his memoir last year. “It will be a multi-edition autobiography. My story cannot be contained in one book. Each phase can be a different book — from my childhood years in a chawl to my stardom, to the empty phase in my life when I didn’t have much work,” he mentioned.

The actor shared that he plans to keep things light and share his life story through characters. He said, “I’ll write it in a light-hearted manner. I want to develop the memoir for the industry ka honewala sitara — if he reads my story, uss bechare ki bahut problems solve ho jayenge. Like Raj Kapoorji, I have tried to tell my story through my characters.” Govinda refused to reveal the title of his book saying, “You should never give it all away because then, there’s nothing left to say. I was an ordinary, short-tempered boy. I got lucky by God’s grace, aur star ban gaya.” The actor is yet to approach a publishing house for his autobiography as he is in the process of writing it as of now.

Govinda’s journey in Bollywood is filled with ups and downs. After starring in several commercial successes throughout his career like Aankhen, Raja Babu, and Coolie No. 1, Govinda had turned to politics in 2004 but resigned shortly after four years. The ‘Raja Babu’ of Hindi cinema has had his share of the limelight from successful collaborations with David Dhawan and Salman Khan and experienced the good, bad and ugly. Having seen both sides of the same coin, Govinda’s fans are anticipating the release of the autobiography which will cover his entire life journey in multiple phases. The actor has left all excited since he revealed the news.
