The 61st Anuual Grammy Awards were held on Sunday night and saw personalities from the world of music come together for the yearly soiree. No award function, be it films or music, has ever taken off without its own share of controversies. While the Grammys this year had many firsts, it also had its fair share of controversies. The first one came just a few days before, when singer Ariana Grande backed out of performing at the Grammys owing to a tiff with the producers.

At the awards on Sunday, rapper XXXTentacion, who was shot to death in June 2018, wasn't honoured by the Grammys in the memoriam segment. Fans of the rapper were left disappointed as the Grammys paid respects to late Avicii. According to a source, representatives for the late rapper requested repeatedly that the Recording Academy recognize the artist, whose “Sad!” was one of the most consumed songs of 2018. But because of the rapper’s history of domestic violence, the show opted not to include him, reported Variety.

The rapper died last June at age 20 when he was shot dead near a motorcycle dealership in Florida. However, Joe Jackson, father of late Michael Jackson, who died last year was a part of the memoriam segment despite being accused of abuse in the past.

Domestic abuse allegations against XXXTentacion were, however, rather serious and looks like were taken into account by the Academy while finalising the memoriam segment. Spotify, too, had banned the rapper a month before his death but his songs returned after he was killed.
