Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, is loosely based on the lives of Mumbai's underground rappers Vivian Fernandes aka Divine and Naved Shaikh aka Naezy. The movie showcases the struggles of street rappers of Mumbai as it was no cakewalk for them. The trailer has already been appreciated by the netizens and they are looking forward to seeing Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt sharing the screen space. Ranveer has completely picked the style of rapping perfectly and his skills are being applauded by the fans and music buffs.

In an interview with Mid-Day, Naezy said that there are certain instances taken from his life and some portions of the movie are fictionalised too. "If you pick up any rapper in Mumbai, our struggles are similar. There are certain instances that have been taken from my life, but some parts have been fictionalised too," said Naved Shaikh or Naezy. Ranveer started prepping up for the role even before the movie went on floors. Talking about Ranveer, Naezy said that he has now become one of them.

“We would constantly speak about the indie scene in India. Ranveer has rapped earlier, so that made things easier for him. Apart from that, he is a great observer. He would study us — from our body language, to how we create lyrics for our songs and the kind of language we use in them. When you look at him in the film, it feels as if he has become one of us,” said Naezy.

He also added that in order to be in the character, Ranveer used to play his track Aane De, on loop during the shoot, besides other rap songs composed by Divine and him.
