Anupam Kher, who is known for his impressive choice of films, is coming up with another heart-wrenching movie Hotel Mumbai. Helmed by Anthony Maras, the movie will be based on the 26/11 attacks of 2008 in Mumbai. And while the movie deals with a sensitive topic, the makers have taken special measures to prepare for the movie. Director Maras and co-writer John Collee went through the documentary Surviving Mumbai and watched the unedited footage of the interviews of the survivors to gauge the situation and develop their movie. He also emphasised that Hotel Mumbai majorly showcases the perspective of the victims of the brutal attack.

In fact, Maras even spent six months in Mumbai to research on the subject and even interviews the survivors and cops. This isn’t all. The team even stated in Hotel Taj, which was once of the key places of the attack, for a month and spoke to the hotel staff for the same. “It all started when I saw the documentary Surviving Mumbai. And from there we spent months in Mumbai to research. We got access to transcripts, tapes, talking to survivors. It was important to be well-versed in what happened during the attacks. It was essential to get a real sense of the matters of the heart. Talking to people took a year. Months were spent interviewing people. We stayed at the Taj Hotel for a month while we interviewed survivors, cops and staff of the hotel to get a picture of what happened that night,” Maras was quoted saying.

Taking about the movie, the director says that Hotel Mumbai is more than a documentary. Instead, it is meant to be an emotional ride that will make one feel empathetic. Also starring Dev Patel, Armie Hammer and Nazanin Boniadi in key roles, Hotel Mumbai is slated to release on November 29 this year and will be coming in Hindi, English, Tami and Telugu languages.
