Kabir Khan's directorial '83 takes us back to the 1983 Cricket World Cup which saw the Indian Cricket team lift the World Cup as they won against West Indies. The sports drama stars Ranveer Singh as the legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, who single-handedly changed the game smashing 16 boundaries and 6 sixes during his knock, taking the score to 266 for 8 in 60 overs. In order to bring alive the true spirit of the sport, the film also stars real-life cricketers like Clive Lloyd’s and West Indies' fast bowler Malcolm Marshall's son. 

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, director Kabir Khan revealed how he recreated the legendary tale in the history of Indian Cricket on camera and how Ranveer Singh broke down with compassion on the sets as he called out 'cut' after filming the closing scene. The helmer lauded Ranveer for his effort and says that the actor lives his roles in every film he does. Be it the physical appearance or nuances, Ranveer aces the character he plays. Ranveer bore such uncanny resemblance to the iconic Kapil Dev that even the cricketer's daughter Amiya Dev, who joined the film as the assistant director, found it eerie.

Kabir Khan revealed in his conversation with the daily that the team of '83 shot for 5 days at the Lord’s stadium in London. They ventured into the dressing rooms and the locker room. They also stepped out on the balcony where the World Cup was presented to the man of the game, Kapil Dev. He also disclosed that they brought the real World Cup for Ranveer Singh to get him all the feels and an overwhelmed Ranveer broke into tears after his last shot.
