Kabir Singh director Sandeep Reddy Vanga opens up about his controversial statement; claims he was 'misquoted'

Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh has been in the news for all the right and the wrong reasons. Although the movie has done extremely well at the box office, its director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has hit the headlines owing to a controversial statement made by him on criticisms received by Kabir Singh. Post the release of the movie, the director reacted to all the negative comments received by the movie in an interview with Anupama Chopra.
Sandeep said, ''When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don’t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don’t see anything there." He further stated that women who had said they were uncomfortable during a few shots in the film, had never experienced real love. "I feel that they were never in love, probably they've never experienced it in the right way."
This controversial statement by the director created a lot of uproar among people and he was trolled mercilessly on social media by numerous netizens. Now, Sandeep has claimed in a telephonic chat with Times Now that he was misquoted. He said, "Go, watch it and enjoy. If you don't like the film then fine. You took me completely wrong. It's not assault. When you're so close to each other, when you can't handle your worst thing with each other. And you don't have the liberty of showing your worst side.." He further stated, "The worst thing is not like 'iss din daaru peeke aake maar rha hai'. It's about the liberty of the expression between a couple who is deeply connected. It works for a woman also and it works for a man also. I spoke for both the sides. But sadly, they are quoting in a very wrong way."
The movie, Kabir Singh has sparked a lot of controversy ever since its release into the theatres. However, despite getting negative comments and criticisms, Kabir Singh has become a blockbuster and has also crossed the 200 crore mark at the box office.
