Late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who passed away on 14 June, made a remarkable shift from television to films almost eight years ago. He made his debut with Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che which clocks eight years since its release today. Labeled as the boy next door back then, Sushant's entry into the movie business was a successful one as the film received critical appreciation. Not just that, the film also set the cash registers ringing at the box office. But did you know it wasn't all smooth sailing in the first sailing.

For the unversed, Kai Po Che was adapted from Chetan Bhagat's novel 3 Mistakes of My Life. However, the author had once revealed in an interview that he had no takers for the film but it was Sushant Singh Rajput who came to his rescue. Speaking to NDTV, Chetan Bhagat had revealed, "I say, with all the respect to Sushant, I loved him, I owe my career to him, Kai Po Che was not getting made, I was not getting a movie, it started after 3 Idiots, because of whatever happened Sushant saved me."

Adding, "I met him when we were making Kai Po Che. He was very driven, very dedicated, very hard working, very sweet, little different in personality related to me, I am very outspoken, I am very besharam, Punjabi types he was a little introverted, that’s, those personality things have had a role you know," he added.

Apart from coming to Kai Po Che's rescue, Sushant also shared a great bond with his co-stars Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh. As Omi, Ishaan and Govind, the trio were the best buddies on screen and also shared a great chemistry. In fact, Rajkummar had even revealed how they had bonded prior to shoot.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Rajkummar had said, "We bonded very naturally when we first met and did our screen test together. Something magical happened among us. We got to know each other better only when we started spending time together, attending the workshops. By the time we began shooting, we were prepared. We were comfortable."

Sushant, on the other hand, had called the film a 'litmus test' since it was a first major motion picture for Sushant, Rajkummar and Amit Sadh.

Apart from the intense plot and a heraty tale on friendship, Kai Po Che's short and sweet soundtrack by Amit Trivedi was a massive hit. Comprising of just three songs, namely Manjha, Shubhaarambh and Meethi Boliyaan, Abhishek Kapoor did not cramp the film with unwanted song and dance numbers which kept it real and grounded.

After Kai Po Che, Abhishek Kapoor worked with Sushant in Kedarnath which did decent business at the box office. The director will be returning with Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor.
