2019 has started on a roaring note for Bollywood, what with Vicky Kaushal’s URI: The Surgical Strike and Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi raking in the moolah at the box office. While URI released on January 11, 2016, Manikarnika hit the theatres on January 25, 2019, and going by the box office collections of the opening weekend, it can safely be stated that Kangana Ranaut has overshadowed Vicky Kaushal’s film to register the highest opening weekend of 2019. That’s right!

In India, the period drama earned Rs 8.75 crore on opening day, on the second day, it raked in 18.10 crore and the film’s third-day collection was Rs 15.70 crore and therefore, Manikarnika collected made Rs 42.55 crore in its first weekend. Not just the domestic market but internationally too, Manikarnika is winning the box office and as informed by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Manikarnika crossed 1 million mark globally, having raked in $ 1.071 mn (Rs. 7.61 crore) in three days. Taran wrote, “Manikarnika crosses $ 1 mn from international markets...Total till Sat [26 Jan 2019]: $ 1.071 mn [7.61 cr]...Thu $ 117k, Fri $ 438k, Sat $ 516k. North America [$ 398k] and UAE-GCC [$ 360k] have performed best. #Overseas”.  And as a result, Kangana Ranaut’s film has zoomed past Uri: The Surgical Strike to register the highest opening weekend of 2019, while Uri had earned Rs 35.73 crore in three days but Manikarnika made Rs 42.55 crore in its first weekend. Kudos to Kangana, we say!

While mid-range films often struggle to reach Rs 50 crore mark but according to trade pundits, Uri has the chance of crossing Rs 200 crore mark super soon. Taran tweeted, “Yes, #UriTheSurgicalStrike has chances of crossing  200 cr mark... This one is a game changer. #Uri #HowsTheJosh.” While Uri is based on the 2016 Surgical Strikes conducted by the Indian Army against the Pakistani terror launch pads across the LoC, the film entered the Rs 100-crore club within just 10 days of its release. URI also stars Yami GautamMohit Raina and Paresh Rawal in key roles. Talking about Manikarnika, the film is based on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi and her war against the British East India Company, during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

Manikarnika is a superb film.

Manikarnika is a superb film.

That is amazing. The production house will clarify that Manikarnika's budget is definitely not 100cr. Trolls are reporting this, dont believe.

well Uri was made on 28 crores and Manikarnika cost 125. i hope both movies do well but this title is mis leading.

Also vicky is hardly one film old as a hero and couple of more movie roles. kangana has been around for more than a decade so where is the comparison from.

Kangana is an actor that Bollywood needs but doesn't deserve.

Good for Kangana.. If she manages to cross 100 crore, film helmed partly by her and carried on her shoulder, its sure to increase her clout in the industry and rightfully so.

Bollywood mafia tried to pull her down!! Talent emerged and well received by audience. Kudos to Kangana for high spirit despite so much negativity is against her

Really? What is budget of uri and mani? How many screens they released on? Why not compare those things?

manikarnika was horrible, really. she could have done so much better - badly wanted this film to be good.

Yay !!!

Say what you will about Kangana, but there is no denying of her talent.

Lmao, so call talent with no footfall at the box office. Manikarnika loosing big time upon good reviews.
