Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar, Deepika Padukone and many other Bollywood stars had attended the 21st edition of Jio MAMI Mumbai International Film Festival on October 13, 2019. Kareena, Alia and Karan, who are all set to  work together for the first time in Takht spoke about the actors pay in Bollywood films. In Bollywood, male actors have a heavy paycheck than female actors. Recently, actresses like Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and others had also spoken out about the wage gap that persists between men and women in Bollywood.

At the film festival, Alia and Kareena were asked whether they have ever walked out of a film or compromised because of getting paid less than their male co-star? To this, Bebo said that there were probably different reasons of walking out of films, but not because of this particular reason. She added that she would love to get paid as much as her male co-stars. Further the actress was asked whether she is being equally paid to Akshay Kumar in their upcoming film Good Newwz, Kareena asked Karan Johar, to answer it who is producing Good Newwz under his banner Dharma Productions.

On this, Karan Johar said that the question is addressed to Alia and Kareena and not him. When another attempt was made to ask Karan by referring Takht, he explained that there is a larger understanding of the economics of movies that sometimes is lesser known to people who don't understand the business and how it functions. Many times, people make sweeping statements about it. He said that he is the first person who'll always want to pay what is completely right and justified and valid. He has always done it. But he feels there's a larger understanding of the budget versus the verticals that sell on digital and satellite that are driven by different data.

Karan further added that there are many women who deserve much more money than the men and there are men who have earned that because of their talent and just the work they have put in. So, it's very subjective and cannot be just put into one strong slot. While he is all about equality, there are larger optics to look at where they have to. On speaking about the wage, Alia said that she is very happy with what she is getting paid and that god has been great.
