Mallika Sherawat speaks up on the #MeToo movement; says, 'it has empowered women'
Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat recently took everyone by storm when she made a shocking revelation about being dropped from projects because she refused to get intimate with her co - stars off screen. Now, the Murder actress has given her opinion about the #MeToo movement. Mallika says that the movement has empowered women which has also scared the perpetrators. She further stated that the movement has also made it difficult for issues on harrassment to be hidden inside the industry.
Coming to the #MeToo movement, Mallika told PTI, '“#MeToo has been a positive step. It’s a strong movement which comes with responsibilities. But men in the industry are absolutely scared. A safe working environment is the right of every man and a woman, so this is a step in the right direction.' She further stated, 'We can discuss things openly. Earlier everything was hushed. Women now feel emboldened to talk about these issues. The perpetrators would now think twice before misbehaving or saying something inappropriate.'
Mallika further said that the power still remains in the hands of men and that more women should become a part of the industry so that a level - playing field is possible. According to the Pyaar Ke Side Effects actress, a certain part of the problem is victim shaming which is rampant in the society. Mallika also expressed her concern on the society's mindset about actresses being 'easy.'
On the work front, Mallika has worked in numerous Bollywood movies which include Murder, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Darna Zaroori Hai, Double Dhamaal, etc.
