Days after the trailer of the much awaited Mardaani 2 was unveiled, the movie has been a rage among the audience. The movie happens to be the most anticipated sequel of Rani Mukerji’s 2014 release Mardaani. While everyone is singing praises for this Rani Mukerji starrer, the Kota residents aren’t happy with the trailer. In fact, they have even come out to protest against the film alleging that the movie is showing the Kota city in a bad light. To note, Mardaani 2 revolves around police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy who is on a quest to hunt down a rapist and murderer from Kota city.

The trailer also suggested that the story has been inspired by true events. This hasn’t gone down well with the residents as they felt that is tarnishing the reputation of the city which has been a hub for engineering and medical entrance exams. As a result, the protestors have asked the makers to remove the name 'Kota' from the movie. According to media reports, the protestors also met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who is also the MP from Kota to register the protest and take action in regard to this matter.

Addressing the issue, Birla released a statement and stated “I will definitely discuss the issue with the concerned people. Maligning a city's name through cinema is not acceptable. The incident on which the film is based is also fictional. So, for a fictional story taking the name of a city is not right.”

Meanwhile, Rani Mukerji is overwhelmed with the response Mardaani 2 trailer has received. She also stated that the movie is coming with a social message which needs to be spread as wide, to as many people as possible. Helmed by Gopi Puthran, Mardaani 2 will hit the screens on December 13 this year.
