The #MeToo movement, which began in the United States more than a year ago, had taken India by storm when several people called out names of sexual predators. It all started after Tanushree Dutta called out Nana Patekar for alleged sexual misconduct and abuse. After which many more revelations came out and shockingly, many names that came out were from the film industry. Singer Chinmayi Sripaada had called out National Award winning Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu and singer Karthik of sexual harassment.

Sripaada in support of ananonymous woman took to Twitter in October and shared about the harrowing experience of the woman with Karthik and called him a 'disgusting sicko'. The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, had sent a message to journalist Sandhya Menon and that was later shared by Chinmayi Sripaada on twitter. "Hi Sandhya, I want to talk about singer Karthik (of Girlfriend fame), I wish to remain anonymous," the woman messaged the journalist. Well, now after three months, singer Karthik has spoken up on the allegations.

On Monday, singer Karthik took to social media and reacted to the allegations made by anonymous during the Me Too Movement that took social media by storm. The singer in a long statement also spoke about why he remained silent for these many months. He says, "The reason for my silence all these months is due to the deadly illness my father has been afflicted with. That is the reason I kept away from social media and going out meeting people."
