Mission Mangal star Vidya Balan opens up on why she signed Shakuntala Devi’s biopic

The gorgeous Vidya Balan is flying high on the success of her most recent release Mission Mangal. It was her comeback to Bollywood after the 2017 hit film Tumhari Sulu. Mission Mangal has completed an exceptionally successful week in theatres and so far, has managed to collect Rs 125 crore nett at the box office. Also starring Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, H. G. Dattatreya, Vikram Gokhale and Sonakshi Sinha in important roles, the drama film is loosely based on scientists at ISRO who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission.

After playing the character of Project Director Tara Shinde, Vidya is all set for her next project, the biopic of Indian math wiz and the ‘human computer’, Shakuntala Devi. Directed by Anu Menon, the film is slated to release in 2020. Talking about why she is perfect for the role in a recent interview, Vidya Balan shared, “I will get a bob to look the part. So the curly bob and my classic South Indian face is a good match for the part.”

The actress also revealed why she decided to sign the film. She said, “What drew me to the subject was her magnetic personality and the life that she led. I am playing her from her early 20s till the fag end of her career.”
