Mulk starring Rishi Kapoor and Tapsee Pannu in the lead roles was released yesterday. The film also stars Prateik Babbar, Rajat Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana and Manoj Pahwa in pivotal roles. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Mulk is a courtroom drama which shows the story of a Muslim family fighting for its self-respect in the society after being accused of having connections with the terrorist world. Taapsee Pannu plays Rishi Kapoor and his family's lawyer, while Ashutosh Rana plays the public prosecutor.

Along with Mulk, this Friday saw two other releases. One is Fanney Khan, which stars Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Rajkummar Rao in lead roles, and is a story revolving around issues like body shaming, and a common man's struggle, while the other is Karwaan, which is about a journey of three people with two dead bodies, featuring the very talented Irrfan Khan, Dulquer Salmaan, and Mithila Palkar.

All the three films belong to different genres and have created quite a buzz among the people. Hence, it was a tough competition for the 3 films at the box office on the day of their release.

The trailer of Mulk had received a lot of attention when it was released, and people were already looking forward to the film. Given that it is a social drama which carries a very important but sensitive message, and was surrounded by a lot of controversies before its release, Mulk has fared well on its first day. The film has done very well in a state like Uttar Pradesh. As per box office reports, the film has collected a total of Rs 1.55 crore on Friday, the most decent amongst the three releases.

Fanney Khan earned only Rs 1.85 crore, but the budget of the film was approximately Rs 35 Crores, hence the first-day collection is definitely not what was desired. Compared to that, Mulk is a low-budget film with an estimate of Rs 18 Crores spent hence Rs 1.55 crore on day 1 is decent. The upcoming weekend for the film looks quite good. It has also received better reviews than the other two releases of the week until now.
