National Film Awards 2019: Ayushmann Khurrana 'thrilled that both AndhaDhun & Badhaai Ho have won’
For actors, winning awards is a validation of their hard work and today, many of the stars from Bollywood won big at the National Film Awards 2019. Joining the league of winners was Ayushmann Khurrana who was awarded the Best Actor award for AndhaDhun and shared the same with Vicky Kaushal for Uri: The Surgical Strike. Not just this, the best film award also went to AndhaDhun and Badhaai Ho also won the Award for Best Popular Film providing wholesome entertainment.
While fans of Ayushmann are celebrating, the AndhaDhun actor is completely thrilled to have won big with both of his films that came out in 2018. In a statement, Ayushmann stated that these awards are like validation for him and his work. The Badhaai Ho actor went ahead and promised to work in the same way. Ayushmann said, “It’s truly humbling and hugely gratifying to win the coveted National Awards. As an artist, I have always tried to back disruptive content that stands out for its quality content. Today’s honour is a validation of my hard work, my belief system, my journey in movies and my reason to be an actor in the first place.”
The actor also praised AndhaDhun director Sriram Raghavan and mentioned that it was his honour to have portrayed his vision on screen. The Article 15 actor added, “AndhaDhun is a path-breaking film and Sriram Raghavan deserves all the accolades for creating a new genre of cinema for Indian audiences to enjoy. I have been truly fortunate to be a part of Sriram Raghvan’s vision and congratulate my director for his genius. As an artist, AndhaDhun challenged me and I strongly feel it made me a better actor.”
Ayushmann even praised Badhaai Ho director Amit Sharma and mentioned that he worked on a taboo topic as he was aware that people could accept such cinema. He said, “I’m glad that a subject like Badhai Ho also won big today and I congratulate my director Amit Sharma for his breakthrough script that became a talking point in every household.” To conclude, Ayushmann mentioned that he will work in the same direction and said, “I will continue on this journey to discover and back cinema that truly stands apart and brings people back into the theatres.”
Ayushmann has already delivered a film this year with Anubhav Sinha, Article 15 which managed to touch upon a sensitive subject of caste divide in India. Now, the star is gearing up for his next three releases which are Gulabo Sitabo, Bala and Dream Girl. With each of his upcoming film, Ayushmann is brining a new subject. Gulabo Sitabo shoot recently wrapped up and it stars Amitabh Bachchan with Ayushmann. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film will release next year.
