Neeraj Chopra flying high as he wins Gold; Bollywood and other celebs post congratulatory wishes on Twitter

Indian Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra scripted history today by winning the Gold Medal today at the Asian Games 2018. He is the first javelin thrower to win an Asian Games Gold Medal. Neeraj Chopra's Gold is India's second Medal in Javelin Throw after Gurtej Singh won a bronze in 1982 in Delhi. His winning throw came in his third attempt. Neeraj Chopra threw 83.46 meters in the first throw. His second attempt was a foul. His third attempt was 88.06 meters whereas fourth and fifth were 83.25 and 86.36 meters respectively. China’s Liu Qizhen came second with 82.22 meter as Best throw whereas Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won bronze at 80.75 meters. India’s Shivpal Singh finished 8th with 74.11 meters.

Neeraj Chopra won the Federation Cup in March this year with 85.94 meter. He clinched the Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games in 86.47 meter. Neeraj Chopra threw 85.17 and 85.69 in France and Finland during the preparations for Asian Games. Neeraj Chopra's biggest rival, Chao Tsun Cheng recorded 91.36 meters last year. He however, managed to throw a best of 79.81 meters and ranked fifth at the Asian Games. The Indian contingent has won 41 medals at the Games in Jakarta so far.
