Netflix REFUSES to censor the controversial Rajiv Gandhi dialogue from Sacred Games

Netflix refused to censor a dialogue where former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is called a ‘wimp’ in its series Sacred Games, according to reports.

Soon after Netflix's first Indian original series, Sacred Games hit the web, it not only garnered all the praise it deserved it also landed itself into a political mess. The web series stars Saif Ali Khan as Sartaj Singh and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Mumbai based mafia don, Ganesh Gaitonde. One scene that has particularly been in question and marred with controversy is when Nawaz calls Rajiv Gandhi a 'fattu' which was translated in the subtitles as "pu*** ". Though Rajiv Gandhi's son, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter in support of Freedom Of Expression, the legal team of Congress still went ahead and filed a petition in Delhi High Court against Netflix asking them to remove the particular scene.

It was earlier reported that Netflix was in the process of replacing the word but they haven't done it yet and are also in no mood to do the same. Senior advocate Chander Lal, appearing for Netflix, In Delhi High Court told the court that the media service provider had no intention of changing the word. “My instructions are that we don’t want to change the word,” he told PTI.  Meanwhile, Petitioner Nikhil Bhalla maintained that the scenes were derogatory towards Rajiv Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi's tweet on this controversy read, "BJP/RSS believe the freedom of expression must be policed & controlled. I believe this freedom is a fundamental democratic right. My father lived and died in the service of India. The views of a character on a fictional web series can never change that.#SacredGames."

This tweet had also got an applause from the director of the series, Anurag Kashyap.

The show created quite a stir because of it's the bold sexual scenes and use of language. Sacred Games is based on author Vikram Chandra's novel of the same name. It has been directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane.

The show also has episodes based on Emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government from 1975-1977, Bofors scandal and Shah Bano cases under Rajiv Gandhi government.

Sacred Games is totally over-rated and filled with hatred towards Hindus. I remember the days when Anurag was a sensible man!
