Padma Awards 2019: Telugu lyricist Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry honoured by President Ram Nath Kovind

Telugu lyricist Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry has been conferred with the Padma Shri Award by President Ram Nath Kovind. Sastry has also won the Nandi Award 11 times.

Padma Awards 2019 were declared to 112 personalities in India on the 70th Republic Day. Ram Nath Kovind conferred the prestigious awards to the personalities on Friday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Akali Dal leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, journalist Kuldip Nayar, actor Mohanlal, Bihar leader Hukumdev Narayan Yadav, former CEO of multinational techno giant Cisco systems John Chambers and former Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha Karia Munda received the Padma Bhushan. While musician Shankar Mahadevan, physicians Sandeep Guleria and and Ilias Ali, actor Prabhudheva and wrestler Bajrang Punia were some of the notable personalities to receive the Padma Shri. Lyricist Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry was also conferred the fourth highest civilian award, the Padma Shri by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind.
 
Sastry was born in 1955 in Anakapalle in Visakhapatnam first wrote lyrics for K Viswanth's Janani Janmabhoomi in 1984 and was soon given referred as Sirivennela after writing songs in the 1986 hit film Sirivennela. Inspired by K Viswanath's 'Sankarabharanam', the lyricist first wrote poetry under the pen name 'Bharani'. He has also been conferred with the Nandi Award 11 times which is the state's highest honour given to the artists. He quit his MBBS degree and worked in the telephone department before becoming a lyricist. Sastry also has authored books like Sirivennela Tharangaalu, Nandi Vardhanaalu, Kalyaana Raagalu, Enno Rangula Thella Kiranam, Shivadwarpanam, Kshirasaagara Madhanam, Nanna Puli among others. 
 
 
Chess player Harika Dronvalli and Venkateswara Rao Yadlapalli, an agriculturist are some other eminent personalities from Andhra Pradesh to win the Padma Shri Award.
