PadMan starring Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte released on February 9, 2018. The movie helmed by R Balki is inspired by Arunachalam Muruganantham who was instrumental in inventing affordable sanitary napkins for women in rural areas.
The movie had a decent beginning at the box office and has picked up well during the weekend. The film has recorded a business of around Rs 45 crore nett in its four days of business so far.
The movie has crossed the collections of Akshay's previous release Toilet Ek Prem Katha internationally with its weekend collections standing around $2.31 million.
Earlier, while talking to Pinkvilla, trade expert Akshaye Rathi spoke about PadMan stating, "Akshay Kumar's film does well as we all know and they do anything between Rs 11 to 15 crore. It's getting a good release and Padmaavat's screens will subside eventually as people have watched the film as it's been two weeks now. There's no Aiyaary either so it will get around 2500 screens. So, it should touch around Rs 12-15 crore at the box office on day 1. I certainly think the film will earn Rs 50 crore in its first weekend and rest depends on word-of-mouth."
While Atul Mohan said, "I am looking at the day 1 to be around Rs 12 crore at the box office and rest depends on how people perceive the film. It might over Rs 15 crore if the reaction to the film is positive. Talking about Periods and Sanitary Pads is a taboo and people are skeptical about what the film has to offer. It will be after the first shows that we will get to know the audience reaction. If people liked the film, I am sure the film's business will be amazing."
