Panipat lands into trouble as Jaipur multiplexes stop screening Arjun Kapoor & Kriti Sanon starrer; Here's Why

Ashutosh Gowariker's historical period drama Panipat is facing severe backlash from the locals of Rajasthan. Jat groups, state ministers and politicians have demanded a ban on the Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Sanjay Dutt starrer. Last, the locals of Rajasthan were seen burning effigies of the filmmaker and now the multiplexes in Jaipur have stopped screening the film. The profound criticism and protest have affected the Box Office numbers and it seems like the film is in trouble.

According to reports, the locals are angry because of the alleged wrong portrayal of Bharatpur's Maharaja Surajmal in the film and have taken to violent means in order to oppose the makers. As per the management at some cinema halls, the shows were being cancelled in view of growing resentment and protest against Panipat. Several multiplexes including Raj Mandir, Cinepolis and Inox theatres at Jaipur stopped screening the film.

The film is based on the Third Battle of Panipat that saw a clash between the Marathas and Afghan king Ahmad Shah Abdali. The discord dates back to 1761 where the two conflicting enemies fought for the land of Panipat. The film recreates the details of the gory battle through the lens of Ashutosh Gowariker. Panipat released pan cinema halls on December 5.
