Actress Parineeti Chopra says she was "down in the dumps" for almost a year, but her brother Sahaj helped her in overcoming depression.

Parineeti talked about the person close to her heart ahead of the TV premiere of Hollywood romantic drama film "Me Before You" on Romedy NOW on Saturday.

"I think every human being who considers themselves to be emotionally evolved, always have this one very big event or one person who comes into their lives and completely changes the way they think. And I can say very confidently that happened in my life," Parineeti said in a statement.

"A couple of years ago, I went through a very low phase emotionally in my life where I was really down in the dumps. It wasn't like a person especially came into to my life, but it was a person who has always been in my life -- my brother Sahaj.

"Sahaj was the guy who was my voice of reason, he was the calming factor. He is the guy who knows me, he knows my pulse, he understands me, he understands the grain that I am made of. So, speaking to him, being with him everyday really used to give me that confidence in myself and really took me out of that phase," she added.

Parineeti said her fight against depression lasted for "almost a year", but she fought it and emerged a "more positive" person.

"So, Sahaj thank you and I love you. You are my baby, you are my brother, you are my life, you are my soulmate, and no man will be able to ever replace that, and I am proud to say that I love you," Parineeti said.

I wont believe this depression card anymore till they show certificate from Doctor, thats how my employement works - everybody needs to show evidence like Kangana :)

Depression is a new fashion which every Bollywood celebrity wants to flaunt

Looks like being in so called depression is a trend in bollywood. News ke liye kuch bhi haan ???

Unless you are diagnosed with depression by a doctor, spare me. These celebrities use the word "depression" left right and center. Maybe some of them are truly clinically depressed, but majority of them are not and it infuriates me how lightly they take such a serious illness. PV Please post

Oh pls!!! Not another one ....

Pretty boy.

So literally all Btown ladies are depressed? Except Kangana, who has been branded mad by haters and trolls #shame

hahaha couldn't said it better. Exactly my thought. These actresses who are battling 'depression' are from affluent families, part of a prominent camp and still battling depression. But when it comes to support someone who is still fighting for something from which everyone can benefit, they don't. This depression nautanki is all about gaining support.

she seems the least likely person to be depressed to me. i dont believe she was depressed.

I know a lot of celebrities when they are fading away discuss something personal about their lives to bring attention to themselves but I think it's better than no one ever talking about mental illness or sexual abuse ever. It's still something very personal to discuss

bandwagon. annoying. atleast prepare like DP who can fake like a boss.

Another depression case. Save us God from these attention seekers

I can imagine how hard it must be to be an actor. You get flops, criticism, hate and what not. And there's no guarantee you'll get good work either. Also I'm sure after a mainstream actress like Deepika talked about depression, other actors also feel more confident talking about it. It is still unfortunately a taboo. So please don't make fun of people who say they are/have been depressed. It is the most unpleasant thing.

OK, Parineeti

So literally all Brown ladies are depressed now??!!!

How do deepika & parineeti correspond to ALL brown ladies? And fyi depression is very real and it is an illness so please don't throw around stupid comments like these

Ok so now everyone wants to talk abt depression after DP admitted it in public !
