Rajesh Khanna, born on December 29, 1942 was an Indian actor, film producer, politician and he was famously referred to as the ‘first superstar’ of Indian cinema. Rajesh Khanna starred in 15 consecutive solo hit films in the period between 1969 and 1971 that earned him the title of India’s first original superstar. To say that Rajesh Khanna is still considered the ultimate romantic hero of his time is not an understatement. He gave his fans some of the best romantic films we have ever seen like Aradhana, Aan Milo Sajna and Amar Prem to name a few. And not to forget, his iconic line 'Pushpa, I hate tears' still resonates in every fan's mind.

Rajesh Khanna made his debut in 1966 with Aakhri Khat and during his career, he appeared in more than 168 feature films and 12 short films. In 1991, Rajesh Khanna was awarded the Filmfare Special award for achieving the feat of doing the most solo hero films in Hindi cinema.

After a period of illness, Rajesh Khanna died on 18 July 2012 and he was posthumously awarded India’s third highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan. Also, in 2013, he was bestowed the title of the First Superstar of Indian cinema at the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards.
