Rani Mukerji had delivered a feisty performance in the drama thriller Mardaani in 2014. She took on the kingpin of a child trafficking racket as she essayed the role of a daredevil Senior Inspector of the CBI, Shivani Shivaji Roy, and battled all odds that came her way. The film is all set to have a sequel now in which Rani will be seen as a Superintendent of Police who is locked in a vicious battle with a 21-year-old merciless villain. 

Well, the film will soon be going on floors and Rani is all set to face the camera after a hiatus. According to sources, the film will begin shooting on March 18, 2019. "Mardaani 2 shoot starts in Mumbai in March and this will be a short schedule. Rani is raring to go and it will be quite thrilling to see her back in action as Shivani Shivaji Roy. She is taking on a 21-year-old villain who knows no mercy or empathy," revealed a source close to the project.

"The makers have zeroed in on a young boy who will take on Rani in this much awaited sequel," a source had informed earlier. Rani was last seen in Hichki in 2018. The actress had essayed the role of a teacher suffering from Tourette's syndrome and was received well by critics and movie buffs alike. 

Produced by Aditya Chopra, this will be Rani’s first film of 2019. Mardaani 2 will be helmed by debutante director Gopi Puthran who was also the writer of Mardaani.
