Rani Mukerji has been quite vocal in terms of putting out her opinions. Rani has been in the industry for long now and has given many powerful performances. When it comes to supporting feminism, Rani is always seen in the forefront. Rani took a break after the birth of her daughter Adira in December 2015. She returned to the big screen with Hichki in March 2018. She is celebrating her birthday today and we decided to look at her five films that are about women empowerment.

Mardaani

Rani Mukerji played the role of a Senior Inspector named Shivani Shivaji Roy in the film. The plot-line focuses on the issues of child trafficking and highlights how Rani becomes the savior for all those helpless girls who were stuck in the shackles of the prostitution. For her performance in the film, Mukerji was highly applauded by the movie buffs in India and abroad. Rani was also nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in 2015.

Hichki

In Hichki, Rani plays the character of Naina Mathur who has a nervous system disorder, i.e. Tourette Syndrome that forces an individual to make involuntary repetitive movements or sounds. Both the critics and viewers appreciated the film, especially Rani's remarkable performance in the film. She was strong-headed and despite all her issues, she chose to overcome her physical and emotional weakness. They were people who pushed her down, but she didn’t lose her calm rather fought with her inhibitions.

No One Killed Jessica

Rani Mukerji essayed the role of Meera Gaity, a journalist, in this film. The film was inspired by the Jessica Lal murder case. She was straightforward in her approach and strived to get to the depth of the crime. It had two female leads - Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan. Rani won the Best Supporting Actress at the Filmfare Awards for the film.

Paheli

Rani played the role of a village belle. In the movie, she fell in love with a ghost. She was married to Shah Rukh Khan in the movie but wasn’t really happy with him. Instead, she chose the ghost as his spirit entered her husband’s body because she was happy with him. The idea of rejecting her original partner and choosing the one she likes is something that makes celebrate the notion of independent women and their ideologies.

Mehndi

One of her first movies where she fought back against all set norms of her husband being the dominant authority. The film focused on physical abuse by her husband and the in-laws. She gave it back and even killed her husband showing the true power of a woman.

oh please seriously, did she had a dick in mardaani?

Being wife of Aditya doesn’t matter how she makes woman oriented films. She can demand and keep making whatever she wants because of her privilege. So why should we care about her films. She should be boycotted
