A film that surely changed the course of Hindi cinema was Karan Johar’s 1998 super hit film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Starring Shah Rukh Khan as Rahul, Rani Mukerji as Tina and Kajol as Anjali, the film was the story of three friends and their love triangle. While it was one of the finest Hindi films ever made, in the era of remakes, many a times fans have wondered if ever there was a reboot of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, who would be the leads.

Now, Karan Johar has revealed what he thinks about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai reboot and also shared at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne his dream cast for the same. Karan was asked about the actors that are in his mind for a reboot, if ever made. The Filmmaker named Ranveer Singh as Rahul, Alia Bhatt as Anjali and Janhvi Kapoor as Tina. Karan even explained why he thought Ranveer, Alia and Janhvi would fit the bill of the roles done by Shah Rukh, Kajol and Rani.

Karan said, “On my wishlist would be Ranveer Singh as Rahul. He has that mad intensity as Shah Rukh Khan. Alia Bhatt as Anjali. She has the spunk and Janhvi Kapoor as Tina because she has the poise and balance of the part.” Karan even narrated the tale of casting the original film back in the days. The filmmaker mentioned that casting for Tina’s part was the most difficult as Tabu, Urmila and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had turned him down. Karan revealed that it was Aditya Chopra who suggested Rani’s name for the part.

Sharing about how he cast for the film, Karan said at the event, “I was ecstatic to met SRK. Kajol and he had promised that they will do my first film. So I remembering going to meet him and I had no script whatsoever. I only had a scene in my mind. Which I narrated to him. And he bought into my bullshit. I told him if you like this one scene then I will narrate the entire film to you, which was completely a lie.” Well, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai remains very close to people’s hearts and recently completed 20 years when Karan threw a bash where Shah Rukh, Kajol and Rani along with the film’s original cast were present. Interesting, Karan Johar’s next directorial, Takht stars all the three actors Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Janhvi Kapoor along with others.

Kjo should just retire. He has now stopped trying. Why torture the audience?

Whilst the biggest production houses continue to make sub-par remakes and reboots and part 2 of movies that did pretty well when they first released and are etched into our memories, the smaller production houses continue to make par excellence movies that do mighty well at the box office.

Leave the original alone, no one will be able to match sharukh, kajol or Rani
