Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the finest filmmakers in Bollywood. He is currently basking in the success of his last release Padmaavat which starred Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. The movie broke many records at the box-office and has crossed the whopping benchmark of Rs 540 crore at the worldwide box-office.

However, the filmmaker says that there's still a long journey ahead. ''There's still a long way to go and lot more to travel (as a filmmaker). So, I need to find all the energies again and be like, 'now the second phase starts','' he told Hindustan Times.

He further added, ''The net practice has taken place for 24 years and now, I'm ready to play the actual match (laughs). I have loved being in this industry, and made the films that I wanted to without worrying about how commercially successful they will be. Instead, I was always worried about 'will it be artistically successful or not?' or 'will I be understood (by people) or not?''

Bhansali goes on to call his film journey 'great fun'. ''In the past 24 years, I've been the most alive filmmaker. No one gets so much love, hatred or even jealousy (laughs),'' he said.

He feels that it's the audience that makes his films special. ''I feel they have a great connection with me as I always get a phenomenal response. So on one hand, if I'm cursed in many ways that I have to go through so many things, I also feel blessed. So, while some love my work and other hate it but they all react to it. And that is wonderful. I want them to criticise the film, too. However, it should be constructive and subjective criticism.''

Anti hindu

SLB is wonderful. As a Westerner, I have started to love Indian movies because of him- and I am sure there are many Westerners like me. So a lot of foreign revenue that Indian movies get is because we love his artistry. yes there are other great directors in India, but for me SLB is something special. I feel I am alive in his movies..but I also get lost in the magnificent canvases he paints and instills with life.
He, for me, is the one modern director I really love.
I hope there will be many more movies from you, SLB ( and I know Padmaavat was heavily edited because of the Sena issue, so the obvious cuts and chopping of scenes are understandable, I know the story was more fluid, I would never take it on you).

I used to find his earlier films too over the top but he’s really hit his stride with the last 3 much more subtle performances, striking visuals...can’t wait for the next one

One genius director, proud of you sir. Love you.

Sanjay sir you are a genius, your music, visuals straight goes into our hearts. All heart director. Love the way you represent indian culture.

We love you sanjay, you introduced us to many indian state culture through your movies. The dialogues, the lyrics all your songs are exceptional in bollywood, legendary director you are. Our love is real towards you.

A mediocre director who is only good at creating lavish sets. Sad times when such a mediocre director is praised as one of the best
