Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan turns 1: 7 dialogues from Ayushmann starrer film that will tickle your funny bone

“Love has no gender – compassion has no religion,” Ayushmann Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar totally justified the famous quote in 2020’s super hit film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. Helmed by Hitesh Kewalya, the romantic comedy film depicted the tale of two same-sex lovers Kartik Singh (Ayushmann) and Aman Tripathi (Jitendra). Today, the film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan clocks one year as it was released on February 21, 2020. It is a sequel to the 2017 film Shubh Mangal Saavdhan which starred Ayushmaan and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles.

However, in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, apart from Ayushmann and Jitendra, it also starred Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao in lead roles. The story of the film revolved around Aman and Kartik, who work together in New Delhi and later when their romantic relationship blossoms they decide to visit Allahabad on the occasion of Aman’s sister wedding to confront Aman’s educated parents. But their journey takes a different turn. Aman, as a small-town guy, fears the impact of his confrontation with his parents. While on the other hand, Kartik aka Ayushmann leaves no stone unturned to express his love for his partner. Ayushmann character in the film was shown as passionate, logical and bold by nature.

However, a steamy make-out scene in a train between Aman and Kartik turns everything upside down. Neena Gupta, who played the role of Aman’s mother tries to understand her son’s situation and pain while Gajraj Rao, who essayed the role of Aman’s father, makes it impossible for his son and his lover’s love to blossom any further.

Ayushmann aka Kartik’s infectious energy was a delight to watch on the screen while Jitendra’s poker-face helped to maintain the relatability factor throughout the film. Even the supporting actors were amazing.

Apart from being a comedy film, the story has a social relevance as well. It has talked about same-sex love, which several people in our society still consider it as taboo and a ‘sin’.

According to IANS report, now as the film turned 1 today, Ayushmann Khurrana has talked about the same-sex relationship which was the main highlight in the film. He said, “Taboo topics need to be constantly addressed through our cinema because it can really help alter the mindset of people.” He further elaborated that it takes a lot of time and effort to normalise taboo subjects and bring about constructive changes in society. “I'm glad that we tried to contribute towards making the conversation about same-sex relationships in India mainstream through Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan," the actor added.
