Sonu Nigam recently made headlines for his statement where he said that he wished he was born in Pakistan at least he would have got work here. The singer later clarified his statement that what he meant was Indian singers have to pay money to music companies for work, whereas Pakistani singer don't have to.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, when he was told how people are upset with his statement, the Kal Ho Naa Ho singer said, "I was asked a question about business. It’s a simple thing. Indian singers have to pay money [to music companies]. If music companies are helping them grow big, they deserve to ask for a share. What I was saying was that Pakistan singers don’t have to do that. But, if you are asking Indian singers for money then Pakistani singers should also be giving that, because they are also singing for you only na? And I had joked that I wish I was born in Pakistan."

Sonu stated that people took his statement in some other context. The singer added, " I have been saying for the last 25 years we cannot ban them, and everyone was saying they should be banned. [But] Hum itne tang dil nahi ho sakte ki hum unhe ban kar dein."

Sonu Nigam has been singing Hindi songs since the 90s. He was at his peak during the 2000s and the singer has lent his voice to all the leading actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan Akshay Kumar, etc.

sometimes people just need to STFU...case in point Sonu

Sonu was so popular in all the Southern states too, he hiked his rates up too much, which was a bad move considering there were upcoming younger artists..thus he lost a lot of opportunities, I m still a fan of his, such a soul soothing beautiful voice, hope he gets more opportunities now

Dope

Everyone knows what he meant....mountain out of mole hill

A jobless mind wanders around joking and thinking about all kind of weird stuff. Focus on getting some work and you will be alright.

It has nothing to do about tang dill or kushal dill. It's a buisness and a dirty one. Before the invention of youtube and popularity of Pakistani singers abroad, India was stealing Pakistani music like its nobody's business. After youtube when Pakistani music started to get uploaded and Pakistani concerts in UK, Newyork, Canada, Dubai, etc India was left with no choice than Invite a couple of singers, give them a couple of songs, make money and then hire mobs to kick them out. After few years, again call one or two singers, make them sing with India singers, create competition by invoking jingoism, make money and then again hire mob to kick them out. This has been going on for 20 years.
