It’s been one year to Padmaavat (2018) and we can still go back to watching the film only to see Ranveer Singh as the menacing and broody Alauddin Khilji. Let’s admit, Sanjay Leela Bhansali got the best out of Ranveer Singh and it was for the first time that cinephiles saw Ranveer as a bad man. With Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor playing the roles of Rani Padmavati and Maharawal Ratan Singh, respectively, Ranveer Singh was the show stealer and rightly so. Before the release of Padmaavat, Ranveer Singh openly talked about how difficult it was for him to get into the skin of Khilji and that he had locked himself for 21 days at his Goregaon house in Mumbai and isolated himself and went into a ‘dark place’ to prepare emotionally to essay the role of Khilji. And well, in the film, Khilji, who is a maniac obsessed with Deepika, we are sure that it took a lot of effort to play the role.

Ahead of the release of Gully Boy, in which Ranveer is playing the role of an underground street rapper, the actor was quizzed if he is ready to play a role as dark and menacing as Khilji again in his career and Ranveer disapproved. “Probably not. Not anytime soon, not on the periphery. I can’t go back there. Touchwood, I am very blessed that right now, I am going through a very good time. I am very happy and happily married. I am being showered with love and affection from my wife. I am in a very warm and fuzzy, happy space in life,” Ranveer informed Bollywood Hungama. Unlike 2018 when Ranveer was mentally prepared to go down the rabbit hole to play Khilji but we are in 2019 and Ranveer is a married man and because of his marital bliss, the supremely talented actor feels that he will take some time before he delivers any Khilij-like performance in his career. “To be honest, when Khilji was offered to me, I was happy even then. But, I was prepared to go down that rabbit hole. Now, I am not prepared to do that again because having done that before, I know how deep and dark it is. I don’t want to do that? Not anytime soon and hopefully never. I will do this mercy on myself and not go down that path again,” Ranveer said.

Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in key roles, was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and ahead of the release of the film, the film was mired in a lot of controversies but when it released, everyone was left impressed with Bhansali’s film. On the work front, after Simmba, Ranveer will next be seen in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy alongside Alia Bhatt. Post Gully Boy, Ranveer will begin filming for Kabir Khan’s ’83, a biopic on Kapil Dev. Currently, the cast of Gully Boy is in Berlin as the film is being screened at the Berlin Film Festival.

Looks like the same sad person is commenting over and over as usual. Anyway the only thing that saved that film was Ranveer. It was a long freaking movie and he entertained.

They went for a joker-esque Khilji and it was really over the top. Mughal Kings were ruthless without making a fool of themselves. Today's public needs to watch Hopkins in Silence of the lambs and Hannibal to actually see how a mad man can act without being crazy.

Actually Ranveer looked comical rather than menacing.. I preferred Shahid’s grace, he looked the part. Loud acting is not acting sometimes.

Ranveer was good in parts for sure, but the musical-Khilji, the homo-khilji, the mad-khilji, the khilji who claps like a 5yr old at the new slave killing her father in law, and so many other scenes was just too comical. It seemed like Ranveer peeped out of Khilji in all those scenes, lol!

Ranveer was good in that role but he should control his energy in angry scenes, he goes overboard, Prabhas in bahubali , look at his serious or angry scenes looked natural but when someone shouts too much when it’s not needed looks over the top. Ranveer was definitely good but didn’t find it to be amazing or out of the box that he had to go through something personally to perform for that role, but I guess he knows better

Ranveer was phenomenal in that character. Sahid’s role was plain even his roaring as a king seem weightless and childlike. Sad Ranveer said he wouldn’t play such characters soon because. he is in happy space?! Com’on As an actor you don’t emulate your personal life. You act.

Khilji came across as comical.

Ranveer shined in the film because it was all about ranveer and khilji. Shahid was right in koffee with Karan. Screen time was unfair. Post Pinkvilla. It's TRUE !!

Good, you cant pull of something like that. There's a thin line between great acting & over-acting, you did the latter.
