On November 2, i.e. on Shah Rukh Khan's 53rd birthday, the much awaited trailer of his film Zero was out. The actor had been working on the film for 2 years. Directed by Aanand L Rai, the film also stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. SRK plays the role of a vertically challenged man called Bauaa Singh in Rai's upcoming romantic drama. The trailer of Zero received a good response from the film industry and Shah Rukh Khan fans.

It didn't take much time for yet another Shah Rukh Khan film to land in trouble. Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa had registered a complaint against SRK and the makers of Zero as they felt one of the posters was disrespecting the Sikh community. On November 5, Sirsa tweeted, "I have written a letter to actor of @Zero21Dec @iamsrk & director @aanandlrai to withdraw the objectionable scene and poster showing Kirpaan as ordinary dagger. Filed a complaint as well as this promotion hurts Sikh sentiments."

After his complaint, the makers of Zero clarified that SRK's character is not wearing Kirpaan in the poster. The makers in their clarification statement mentioned that SRK is not wearing a Kirpaan but a Katar in the poster. Manjinder Singh Sirsa accepted the clarification of the makers and tweeted, "It’s good you have clarified this in time. We accept your point @SpiceSocial1 Anything that hurts religious sentiments should be clarified with clear communication".
