Park So Dam left Bong Joon Ho on 'read' when the director approached her for Parasite via text for THIS reason
Parasite made history in 2020 by bagging the Oscar for Best Picture. While Park So Dam delivered a memorable performance, the actress almost didn't make it to the Bong Joon Ho directorial.

Park So Dam, like the other cast of Parasite, delivered a memorable performance in the Oscar-winning movie. The actress also became popular for her Jessica Jingle in the movie. However, the Record of Youth star almost didn't make it to the movie. Park So Dam appeared on MAMAMOO Solar‘s YouTube channel, as reported by Koreaboo, and revealed that Parasite director Bong Joon Ho personally approached the actress, offering her the role of Kim Ki Jung in the movie. The director directly approached the actress for she wasn't signed with an agency at the time.
Bong Joon Ho wasn't a new name in the Korean entertainment industry. He had worked on Snowpiercer, Memories Of Murder, and The Host before Parasite happened. "While I was spending time alone like that, director Bong Joon Ho contacted me," she informed Solar. The filmmaker had seen her audition for his 2017 movie Okja and felt that Park So Dam would be perfect for the movie. However, the actress was doubtful of herself and as a result, did not respond to the message altogether. "I didn’t respond," she revealed.
"So you left him on read?” Solar asked in disbelief and Park So Dam couldn't help but embarrassingly laugh for her past action. Fortunately for Park So Dam, Bong Joon Ho dropped her another text, asking and this time around, she replied to the director. And the rest, as they say, is history!
