16 years of Devdas: Madhuri Dixit shares a throwback picture with Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Devdas, starring actors Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has completed 16 years of its release today.

The 2002 romantic drama, Devdas, starring actors Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has completed 16 years of its release today. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the cult film is based on the 1917 Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel Devdas.

Madhuri, who played the role of Chandramukhi, is nostalgic on the special day. She shared a throwback picture with Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

She captioned the image as, "Throwback to #Devdas which will always be a film very close to my heart! From working with all the talented actors and technicians, to the dances, to wearing some of the finest outfits and excellent performances. It was so much fun to be a part of this beautifully crafted film #16YearsOfDevdas @iamsrk #SanjayLeelaBhansali @aishwaryaraibachchan_arb."

In an old interview, Madhuri had said, "Chandramukhi is a very poignant, very feminine character. If I were to compare this role, I would probably compare with Rekhaji's role in Muqaddar Ka Sikander. As his treatment of the novel is itself different, the obvious comparison between Vyjayanthimalaji and me will not arise. The previous Chandramukhi was her interpretation of the role. This portrayal is the result of our combined interpretation. As far as direct comparison with her goes, I am sure that will not arise."

She added, "Being a dancing girl's role, my Kathak training stood me in good stead. The song Kahe chhed mohe was choreographed by the legendary Birju Maharaj. I have sung the kavith channs for this mujra. It has a different, more classical feel compared to the regular film ones."

Along with the domestic audience, the movie was also well-received overseas with the viewers going gaga over the gigantic beauty that was presented to them. The movie which was also nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Language Film, also starred Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead roles.

My favourite bollywood film ever. Introduced bollywood to so many people around the world

True Devdas is a great film, but no, Devdas didn't introduce bollywood to the world

classic!

She explored her classical dancer side only in few songs like Ho Ram ji & Kaha Chede..Most of her dances are either item numbers or wedding numbers. We never got to see her classical dance as such.
