The 65th National Film Awards ceremony was held today at Vigyan Bhavan in the capital city. Late actor Vinod Khanna was honoured with the Dadasahed Phalke Award.

Akshaye Khanna and Kavita Khanna received the award for veteran actor Vinod Khanna on the stage. The honour was handed to them by President Ram Nath Kovind and Information and Broadcasting and Textiles Minister Smriti Irani.

About receiving the honour for his father, Akshay Khanna told PTI, "We are really proud as a family. It is a bittersweet moment for us. I wish my father was here to receive this award. I am missing him. It is an emotional day for us."

Vinod Khanna was last seen in the film Dilwale in which he played Shah Rukh Khan's father's role.

Vinod Khanna, known for popular films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Qurbani and the likes, succumbed to bladder cancer last year. He was 70 when he breathed his last.

In an interview earlier, Akshaye Khanna expressed his wish to have been able to work with his dad.

"I can’t remember a film that was offered to me where I got the chance to work with him. I worked with my dad in my first film (Himalay Putra), but it would have been nice to have worked with him after I was a little mature and experienced as an actor. I wish I had that chance," Akshaye revealed.
