Pari Movie Review: Anushka Sharma will give you sleepless nights with her scary as hell act

Pari Movie Review: Supported by a terrific cast, Prosit lets Anushka shoulder most of the work here. She is gloriously scary and kudos that a mainstream actress didn’t think it’s a suicide attempt to do a film like this. It’s not.

Of the many things that Pari is, scary is the most prominent after-feeling. And refreshing. Yes, novel too, if you consider Hindi horror movies. Ifrit was only a passing thing my childhood nanny had once told me about and since that scared me so much, she never finished the story of the demonic jinn. The movie by Prosit Roy brings back the concept of public knowledge. Anushka Sharma plays Rukhsana, who seems all human but there’s something off about her. She seems other worldly, enough that her mother kept her tied and chained. Rukhsana meets Arnab (Parambrata Chatterjee) when a car driven by his father-in-law kills her mother. The kind-hearted Arnab decides that Rukhsana is his responsibility till he can find something else for her to do. The story that unravels is one that will run chills down your spine.

But what is irksome in this saga is that around hardly bares the backstory of Rukhsana till the end, and even when he does there are a fair amount of loose ends to tie up. But Prosit invests entirely in this drama, keeping it crisp and adequately frightening all through. The biggest respite is that the film isn’t a sleaze horror show which tacky ghost faces. A fair amount of intelligence reflects in practically every frame of the film. Prosit seems to have grown up on a pedigree of Hindi horrors and thus he knows exactly what to refrain from. He does not give you shrieks when you are waiting; it turns up most unexpectedly and will knock the daylights off you.

Supported by a terrific cast, Prosit lets Anushka shoulder most of the work here. She is gloriously scary and kudos that a mainstream actress didn’t think it’s a suicide attempt to do a film like this. It’s not. If anything, this is one film which will shine on her resume. A start of smart horror films and more mainstream actresses taking the plunge for non-glamorous parts. It looks like she got a real kick from the story and she is having great fun at her work in this one for sure. The pleasant face as Vidya Balan’s aide in Kahaani is Rukhsana’s friend here. Those not familiar with his Tollywood work, are only seeing glimpses of his brilliance here. Playing his character to the tee, he makes the vulnerabilities of his character palpable.

Special mention to Rajat Kapoor and Ritabhari Chakraborty who are both well fitted in their parts.  It’s commendable that The Film keeps its mystery alive all through. A great edit team, subtle and apt music, the perfect background score and mostly, some solid writing makes this film a deserving winner. Don’t miss Pari, some hiccups aside it serves its purpose - no sleep for at least a week. Well, hello insomnia!

We rate it a 70% on the Pinkvilla Movie Meter.

A big FLOP....I request everyone to please avoid this film because it's very stupid and boring film. NOT scary at all.

Let peoplw decide for themselves. What may be stupid and boring for you may be interesting for others. Just because you have no taste does not mean everyone is the same as you.

I applaud her producing films but it seems she's not very good at selecting profitable films.

Are you for real? according to you profitable movies are brainless masala movies with the actor kills 100 people with 1 kick. The woman is trying her best to produce good movies and setting a trend. Here you are with your comment trying to put her down. She produced three movies so far, NH10, Phillauri and Pari, all with great stories.

I don’t know why katrinaa fans spread hatred toward each and every actress, from Anushka to Sonam, Deepika Kangana, Kareena, Priyanka, Alia

WE R STILL MOURNING SRI'S DEATH. DONT FEEL LIKE WATCHING MOVIES ANYMORE.

WHO IS WE? SPEAK FOR URSELF,INDIA HAS MORE BETTER THINGS TO DO THAN MOURN 24/7 FOR AN ACTRESS. PV post this for real Indians.

Sounds good! Too scary for me .

Saw this today. It's not that scary or "real horror" or gruesome compared to most top notch Hollywood movies and TV shows. The climax was way too convenient and this film left me confused with A LOT of questions because a lot of things didn't make any sense. Too many and too big loopholes to ignore. But ya everyone's acting was good.

Please get people who know proper English to write reviews worthy of a read. Your reviews sound like they are written by someone who failed English in school. They have no credibility and cant be taken seriously!

You are very rude. Learn to appreciate other people's work

"She is gloriously scary and kudos that a mainstream actress didn’t think it’s a suicide attempt to do a film like this. It’s not. If anything, this is one film which will shine on her resume." - JM and Joseph. It's true. This may have been written by a 15 year old.

70% and is already set to recover it's budget? Amazing! I give such props to her! I don't think any of us would have pinned Anushka Sharma to be able to carry her own movies and produce such unique ones, especially from such a young age. Just cause I work in PR and this would've been a nightmare coinciding with Sridevi, it looks really inconsiderate to promote. She picked a very lucky slot to not collide with anyone though.

You know who say Anushka, Alia and Kareena overact? Fans of the two frozen faced models who in addition to Ranbir, have another thing in common: both still can’t deliver a dialogue properly.

Who says Alia and Kareena overact. I don't hear that. Alia is a good actress. I think Kareena is A-class in comedy, for real.

Horror is my favorite genre...especially the kind that deals with possession and demons and jinns. Looking forward to watching this one.

jhms is terrible and anushka is overrated. Social media means nothing if it can’t fill seats in a theater

Flop film

Movie was good and please trolls apna dekho joh tumhne jingai mein raetah pehlaya

U all trolls can u leave anushka whats her fault hah

Anushka can act wow such a good act by her

Hands down anushka is best actir

Anushka can act

Boring movie

After the glowing review Pinkvilla gave JHMS, I stopped believing in your review s

JHMS was nice. It was a bit muddled, they should have shown more of both their past, and ACTUALLY HAVE THEM MEET (thank you freaking Ranbir Kapoor). It was a hit overseas, only after Raees and possibly Tiger.

JHMS was a nice movie, I really enjoyed the film and the chemistry between SRK and Anushka. The pinkvilla review for JHMS was spot on. Pinkvilla does a great job at reviewing movies.

let's be honest now, JHMS was t e r r i b l e

Honestly, JHMS was a really good movie, just not for those who do not understand complex relationships!

Where r those troller calling movie flop

Reviews doesn't prove its a hit either. Box office numbers decide hit or flop. According to trade ppl it has theowest occupancy film of 2018.

whats your problem. A good movie should be a hit as more people should go an watch. But in India brainless movies make 300cr business and then people complain why do they make s$$t

Lets be honest here, horror is not a specific genre and not for everyone. Therefore it is to be expected that it will have a low occupancy compared to a romance or action movie. As per trade analysts on twitter, this movie has already recovered its costs of production even before it's release through satellite, digital, music n other rights.

Satellite rights music act doesn't make it a hit. Box office decides it. Accept it

News: #Pari has already recovered its cost of production even before it's release through satellite, digital, music n other rights. Its a win win situation. The film carries positive reports. It releases tomorrow March 2 and will get the Holi Holiday advantage. Twitter: faridoon

Who said it's a hit? It opened with 12 % occupancy. It's a flop.

Movie was awesome

I actually think Anushka can really act but wonder why people say she overacts.

Wow grt review! I like Anushka for trying new genres and always bringing something exciting to the plate.
I would rather watch her than Kareena in her 2 mins role opposite Khans (i was her hardcore fan for a decade+) or a Katrina only good to show her midriff and lame dance moves etc. in movies..
Not a hater, not an Anushka fan only stating my opinion!!!

Hi Anu , still won't watch, take care of Viru

I feel sorry for nonsense trolls who tried to degrade an independent, talent hard working lady. Kudos to Anushka, she once again gave something different something new, she took risks with NH10, Phillauri and Pari and all of these turned to be good movies. keep it up. Haters gonna hate, thats what they can do best! pv post.

this review is a tight slap to all those who pretended that this movie's trailer and screamers were "funny" . More power to Anushka! thank you pinkvilla.

One review proves its not funny? lol ok.
