The ruthless rain in England disappointed cricket fans for one more time as the match 15 of World Cup 2019 between South Africa and West Indies was washed out at Southampton. It was the second match after the Pakistan-Sri Lanka encounter that ended in no result. Both the teams received a point each as rain halted the game in the eight over of the first innings.

Earlier, West Indies won the toss and elected to field first at the fresh-looking Rose Bowl track. The decision turned out to be helpful as Proteas lost two early wickets. In-form Sheldon Cottrell first removed struggling Hashim Alma and later dislodged Aiden Markram as well. Although opener, Quinton de Kock was still at the crease, South Africa was in deep, deep trouble before the rain arrived.

It kept taking pace with the time, hence resulting in more further play. The match was finally called off, leaving cricket fans disheartened. Captains of both the teams also were not happy with the weather at Southampton.

“Rain-affected matches are the worst. Both teams wanted a result, but you can't control the weather.” Faf du Plessis, the South Africa skipper said.

Jason Holder commenting after the match also remarked, “ We were in a good position today, but we can't control the weather. I guess we were hoping we would get a full day today, but nothing we can do about this so we have to move on and play well in the future matches.”
