Arasan: Silambarasan TR eyes a quick shoot for Diwali release?

According to Vikatan, Arasan has completed filming approximately one hour of footage. Reports suggest that Silambarasan TR, director Vetrimaaran, and producer Kalaippuli S. Thanu are pleased with the progress made so far.

Vijay Sethupathi is reportedly yet to join the shoot and is expected to portray a rugged officer. However, he is likely to begin filming only after completing work on Pocket Novel.

Reports further indicate that the production is expected to wrap up soon, with Vetrimaaran aiming to complete the project at a faster pace than some of his previous ventures.

Arasan is set within the Vada Chennai cinematic universe and serves as a spin-off of the Dhanush starrer. Apart from STR and Vijay Sethupathi, the film also features Yogalakshmi and Chaitra J. Achar in key roles. Reports also suggest that Priyanka Arul Mohan may be part of the cast.

Interestingly, Arasan marks Vijay Sethupathi and STR’s second collaboration after Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, directed by Mani Ratnam. The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his first collaboration with Vetrimaaran.

Silambarasan TR’s work front

Silambarasan TR was last seen alongside Kamal Haasan in Thug Life. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film revolves around the evolving relationship between a veteran gangster and his foster son.

Featuring Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, and Mahesh Manjrekar in pivotal roles, the film received a mixed response from critics and audiences.

Additionally, Simbu is set to collaborate with Dragon fame Ashwath Marimuthu on a fantasy action entertainer tentatively titled STR51. While the film was initially expected to go on floors after Arasan, the director has since shifted his attention to the Rajinikanth starrer Thalaivar173.

According to a recent interview with STR51 producer Archana Kalpathi, the film is expected to commence production in February 2027.
