Are Mohanlal and Manjummel Boys’ Chidambaram joining hands for a film? Director clarifies about rumors
Mohanlal is currently filming for his next movie, Athimanoharam, while director Chidambaram’s Balan is gearing up for release.
Mohanlal and director Chidambaram made headlines recently after reports suggested that the duo might join hands for the first time. The news was even shared by the director’s father, indicating that the collaboration might be close to being confirmed. However, Chidambaram himself appears to have provided clarity on the matter.
Is Mohanlal set to work with director Chidambaram?
In a recent interaction with Media One, Chidambaram dismissed the ongoing rumours and clarified that he has not held any discussions with Mohanlal regarding a project.
The director mentioned that his father might have heard a rumour and shared it on social media. He added that, as of now, he has not had any talks with Mohanlal about a project, even though he has met the superstar on casual occasions.
When asked whether he has any ideas for a project with Mohanlal, the Manjummel Boys helmer stated that if he ever gets the opportunity, it would be a complete entertainer featuring the iconic moments one would expect from a Mohanlal starrer.
Coming to Chidambaram’s next release, the director is set to hit the big screens soon with Balan. The mystery psychological thriller follows a teenage boy searching for his missing mother after a turbulent childhood and her subsequent disappearance, as he seeks closure and uncovers the truth about his past.
With Farzana Palathingal, Adhisheshan KR, Zinan, Jean Paul Lal, Girish AD, and others in pivotal roles, the film also features Tovino Thomas in a cameo appearance. Written by Suriya47 director Jithu Madhavan, the film is slated to release on June 19, 2026.
Mohanlal’s work front
Mohanlal was last seen in the lead role in Drishyam 3. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the film is the third instalment in the thriller-drama franchise, with Meena, Ansiba Haasan, Esther Anil, Murali Gopy, Asha Sarath, Kalabhavan Shajon, and Siddique reprising their previous roles. Following its theatrical run, the film is set to begin streaming on Prime Video from June 18, 2026.
The actor is currently working on his next film, Athimanoharam, directed by Tharun Moorthy. The film features Meera Jasmine as the co-lead and is expected to be released during Ayudha Pooja this year.
Looking ahead, the actor has films lined up with directors Vishnu Mohan, Priyadarshan, and Dileesh Pothan. Lalettan will also make cameo appearances in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, and his daughter Vismaya Mohanlal’s debut film, Thudakkam.
