Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's Dear Comrade releases today. The Telugu movie has been the talk of the town ever since the trailer released. The intriguing trailer showcased the sizzling chemistry between the two lead actor and generated curiosity abou the movie. Given that Vijay and Rashmika have fans outside the Telugu industry, the makers decided to release the movie in other South Indian languages as well. Dear Comrade has released in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. The Kannada release stirred controversy earlier today. 

Take to Twitter and you would come across the hashtag #BoycottDearComrade making the rounds online. Dig more and you would note that most of these tweets are from Karnataka. Turns out, Kannadiga film lovers are angry with the makers for releasing Dear Comrade's Kannada version on lesser screens as compared to the Telugu aka original version of the movie. Questions over the lesser screen counts for Dear Comrade's Kannada version were raised. 

Viewers went on to point out that the movie's Kannada version has more screens internationally as compared to the number of screens in Karnataka. Check out a few tweets below: 

In an interview with Film Companion, Vijay Deverokonda revealed that the makers decided to release the movie in different languages since the crew belonged from different states. "My cameraman is a Malayalee, my editor is a Malayalee, my music director is Tamil, my actress is Kannadiga. We realised that this is something we love the output and we realised this is something that works across regions, irrespective of languages. We thought why do we restrict it," he said, speaking about releasing the movie in different languages. "This is the first time we are doing it so we will understand how it works, what is the payoff. It is a lot of effort which we realised," he added.
