Tamil cinema’s veteran actor and filmmaker K. Bhagyaraj passed away on June 27, 2026, at the age of 73, after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest. He leaves behind an impeccable legacy. However, did you know that he had recently attended actress Khushbu Sundar’s daughter’s wedding in Goa?
Yes, news of the actor’s passing came just days after he was seen attending the celebrity wedding in Goa, making it a shock for many. According to Hindustan Times, the veteran was spotted at the venue interacting with his contemporaries.
A video from the star-studded wedding ceremony has now surfaced on social media, showing Bhagyaraj warmly greeting Chiranjeevi. Several other celebrities, including Venkatesh Daggubati, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Trisha Krishnan, Jackie Shroff, and Anil Kapoor, were also seen attending the event.
K. Bhagyaraj worked predominantly in Tamil cinema over the years while also directing and acting in films across other Indian languages. He wrote and directed more than 25 films and acted in over 75, earning recognition as one of the most influential writer-directors in Tamil cinema.
Over the years, he was part of several notable films. One of his final on-screen appearances was in Dhanush-starrer Kuberaa, in which he played the character Sadhu. Apart from cinema, the actor-filmmaker was also associated with television, appearing in serials as well as reality shows.
Beyond his legacy as an actor, director, and screenwriter, Bhagyaraj was also a skilled musician who composed music for films such as Aararo Aariraro, Ponnu Pakka Poren, Pavunnu Pavunuthan, and Gnanapazham.
Following his passing, several members of the film fraternity, including Thalapathy Vijay and Rajinikanth, were seen attending his funeral.
K. Bhagyaraj is survived by his wife, actress Poornima Bhagyaraj, and their children, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Saranya Bhagyaraj. While Shanthanu is known for his role in Vijay's Master, Saranya is a former actress who appeared in films such as Mohanlal's Photographer and Parijatham, alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran.
