Jana Nayagan, starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role, was slated to release on January 9, 2026, but has remained stuck in limbo due to the unavailability of certification. Now, it appears that the superstar is determined to bring the film to the big screens as soon as possible.
Did Thalapathy Vijay ask Jana Nayagan producer to return from Cannes 2026?
According to India Today, Thalapathy Vijay instructed Jana Nayagan producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions to return to Chennai and focus on the film’s release.
Reportedly, the superstar asked the producer to cut short his visit to Cannes Film Festival and return in order to secure the necessary approvals, as the movie has allegedly been pending with the revising committee for several weeks. Once the clearance is granted, the makers are expected to begin the final steps required for the film’s theatrical release.
The producer was reportedly in France for the screening of the Malayalam film Balan at the festival.
For those unaware, Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled for a Pongal 2026 release. However, the film could not make it to theatres due to delays, leaving the project in release limbo. Reports suggest that the movie is now expected to release by the end of May 2026 and is being touted as Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film ahead of his retirement from acting.

As Vetri Kondan becomes entangled in the crisis, a personal vendetta emerges, forcing him to take matters into his own hands and expose the system responsible for triggering the chaos.
Apart from Thalapathy Vijay, the film also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, and Sunil in key roles. The film’s music and background score have been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
