Prashanth Neel on Jr. NTR losing weight for his character
Dragon director Prashanth Neel dropped a bombshell about the sheer madness that went into achieving Jr. NTR’s chiselled look. Speaking with Galatta Plus, the filmmaker stated that the South Indian megastar underwent an extreme physical transformation, shedding a whopping 15 kilograms in just four months.
According to Neel, the idea of the drastic body transformation casually popped up during routine look tests nearly a year and a half ago. He casually suggested to the actor that a lighter assassin might look more authentic on screen.
“I told him that if you became thinner for the role of the assassin, it would help,” Neel shared during the interview. That simple suggestion led to a much bigger transformation.
The RRR star immediately paused all his other professional commitments, cleared his calendar for four months, called his trainer in the next 30 minutes, and started his process the next morning.
“He didn't shoot for the next four months, and he lost about 15 kgs at one point in time. I asked him to stop many times in between because he started looking frail and became paler, but he didn't stop," Neel shared.
He further admitted that Tarak’s lean body made everyone around him worried. “His wife was upset with me, his mother was upset with me, all his friends were upset with me. Everybody who knew him was upset with me. My whole team was upset with me, but I told them that it was not my doing. I just told him to lose a little bit of weight, and he went berserk with it,” recalled the Dragon director.
He also admitted that watching the actor push himself was anxiety-inducing for the entire production crew. The shoot even had to be pushed back by a few months until he achieved the exact silhouette required for Luger.
