Director Lokesh Kanagaraj is all set to hit the big screens soon with his debut film as a lead actor, DC, which is slated to release on July 31, 2026. Ahead of the romantic actioner's release, the filmmaker has opened up about the future of his cinematic universe and addressed speculation about whether it has been shelved.

Lokesh Kanagaraj on the future of LCU

According to Galatta, Lokesh Kanagaraj was recently spotted at an event, where he spoke about the future of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). Addressing the ongoing speculation, he said, "There was buzz going around that the LCU was closed and all. I would close GSquad (home production) if it came to it, but I cannot close the LCU. First of all, I didn't even name it; it was a tag given by fans online, and I just adopted it. I'm still following it now."

He further added, "I cannot come out and abruptly say, 'No, I am not making any more films in the LCU.' Be it Kaithi 2, Vikram 2, or the Rolex standalone film, these are all my commitments. The LCU is not closed; it will continue. After I finish Allu Arjun sir's film, I will work on it. Also, Benz, under my production banner, is happening, and that is also a part of the LCU." For those unaware, the LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe) is a shared universe of interconnected films created by Lokesh Kanagaraj. It began with Kaithi and later expanded with Vikram (2022) and Leo (2023), connecting characters and storylines across multiple films.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s work front

Lokesh Kanagaraj is set to make his debut as a lead actor with Arun Matheswaran's DC. Described as a modern retelling of the classic Devadas set against an action-packed backdrop, the film features Lokesh as Devadas, Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra, and Sanjana AK as Parvathi. The film is scheduled to release on July 31, 2026, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Following DC, Lokesh will return to the director's chair for Allu Arjun's upcoming action entertainer, tentatively titled AA23 (LK07). The project will also feature music by Anirudh.
